A good sleep environment is a curve, not a setting

Cooler to fall asleep, warmer through deep sleep, cooler again before waking. One fixed temperature all night is wrong in three different ways.

4
stages, each at its own temperature
1.5°
between deep sleep and waking
1
press starts the whole night

What your body needs changes across the night

To fall asleep, your core temperature has to drop. That is a physiological requirement, and a cooler room speeds it up — so being slightly cool when you first lie down is correct.

Once you are in deep sleep, though, your body regulates less well and your temperature sits at its daily low. A room that is still cool at that point has you curling up, pulling the covers tighter, sometimes waking outright.

Closer to morning it reverses again: slightly cooler helps you wake naturally. Those three needs conflict, which is why any single overnight temperature — whatever number you pick — is wrong for part of the night.

27.5° 26.0° 24.5° falling asleep deep sleep light sleep pre-wake 26.0° 27.0° 26.5° 25.0° Light warm, fading dark rising Sound white noise, 30 min silence 22:30 23:30 04:00 06:30 07:00 The temperature does not simply fall or rise — it falls, rises, then falls. Deep sleep is the warmest stretch Light and sound appear only at each end; the five and a half hours between are untouched All of this runs from a single press of the sleep button
A full night, arranged. Three tracks each changing on their own, and you pressed once.

The same night, in order

  1. 22:30

The button goes in and the room winds down

The air conditioning takes over from its daytime setting and holds 26.0. The bedside lamp drops to a very dim warm white and fades to nothing over the next ten minutes, with white noise sitting underneath at a low volume. No chime, and no light snapping on anywhere.

  2. 23:30

Into deep sleep, and the room warms a degree

The target moves from 26.0 up to 27.0 — the only upward step of the whole night. The lamp is long out and the white noise stopped itself before this, so there is nothing to see or hear at the moment it happens. The air just stops feeling cool.

  3. 04:00

Back to light sleep, half a degree only

The air settles at 26.5. Half a degree rather than the full drop is deliberate: this is the shallowest stretch, and an obvious change in compressor speed is enough to surface you. Curtains, lamp and speaker all stay exactly where they are.

  4. 06:30

Cool air and light arrive together

The air goes to 25.0 while the bedside lamp starts climbing from dark, its warm amber shifting towards white. Both at once is what lets the body read the change as morning rather than as somebody switching a light on.

  5. 07:00

The scene ends and hands the room back

The sleep set releases itself here: curtains open, the air returns to your usual daytime setting or shuts off, the lamp goes out. The first thing you do on waking is never cancelling the button you pressed last night.

What each stage is doing

StageWhenClimateWhy
Falling asleepFirst hour after lying down26.0°Slightly cool speeds the drop in core temperature, which is a precondition for sleep. Lights fade and white noise runs for thirty minutes
Deep sleepRoughly 23:30 to 04:0027.0°Body temperature is at its daily low and regulation is weakest. A degree warmer prevents waking cold or curling up
Light sleepRoughly 04:00 to 06:3026.5°Starting to rise again, so come back down slightly. This is the easiest stage to disturb, so every action stays gentle
Pre-wakeThe final thirty minutes25.0°Noticeably cooler alongside rising light, so the body prepares to wake on its own
Warming during deep sleep is the least intuitive and most effective part. The common complaint that "leaving the air conditioning on means waking up cold at 3am" traces straight back to this. The temperature is not set wrong — it simply never changed with the body.

Four things it takes care of

Falling asleep faster

Cooler room, dimmer light and a little background sound together noticeably shorten the gap between lying down and being asleep.

Not waking cold

Warming through deep sleep cuts the number of times you surface to pull the covers up. This is the part people notice most.

Waking naturally

Cooler air with rising light lets the body prepare in advance — far kinder than an alarm dragging you out of deep sleep.

Running cost

A degree higher through the longest stretch of the night adds up, and it is saved exactly when you least need the cold.

More than one air conditioner? Use the sync_climate blueprint. A master bedroom plus a dressing room, or an inverter unit alongside an older window unit, is a common arrangement. The blueprint keeps their mode, temperature and fan speed aligned so one is never heating while the other cools.

How the whole thing works

Press sleep once per night adascene_multi schedules four stages Asleep 26.0°, light fades, noise Deep 27.0°, dark and silent Light 26.5°, stays quiet Wake 25.0°, light rises
One button, four scheduled stages. The blueprint applies the right settings at the right time, and you take no part in the middle.

Use the ready-made blueprint

The hub ships with 22 tested automation blueprints — think of one as a fill-in-the-blanks form. This uses adascene_multi, which can schedule up to ten time points a day. Here it needs four.

NotificationsAbsolutely notOff
Every notification in this set has to be off. It is the iron rule of sleep automation. A single overnight push destroys exactly what the whole arrangement is for.

Just say the word

The WOOWTECH hub ships with HA-MCP, so AI can reach straight into your system and do the work: find the bedroom air conditioning, the bedside lamp and the speaker, lay out the four stages, then run them once to confirm the temperature really moved before reporting back.

YouBuild a deep sleep mode. After I press it, the air conditioning follows the night: 26 when I fall asleep, up to 27 in deep sleep, down to 25 before waking. Lights fade out and play white noise for thirty minutes.
pi agentThe master bedroom has one air conditioner, a bedside lamp and a speaker, all found. Four staged scenes are built and attached to the sleep button on the bedside panel. White noise stops automatically after thirty minutes. All notifications are off, so nothing will reach you overnight.
YouHow do you know it actually works
pi agentI ran each of the four stages once and checked the target temperature afterwards every time: 26, 27, 26.5 and 25, all correct. I also confirmed the whole set sent no notification at all.
YouMy husband feels the cold more
pi agentThen deep sleep goes from 27 to 27.5 and the rest stays. With the air compromised, an electric blanket rule on his side would handle the difference properly — shall I add one?

Prompts you can copy straight across

Every block below can be copied whole, using the button on the right. Pick the one closest to what you want; you do not need all of them.

The simplest versionuse this if you just want it running
I want a deep sleep mode. When I press the sleep button beside the bed,
the bedroom air conditioning should follow the night on its own: cooler
as I drop off, warmer through deep sleep, cooler again before I wake.
Fade the bedside lamp out slowly and play white noise for thirty
minutes, then stop it.
The full versionuse this to get it right in one go
Build a deep sleep mode for the master bedroom, started by the bedside
sleep button.
As I lie down set the air to 26, take the lamp to a very dim warm white
and fade it to off over ten minutes, and play white noise very quietly.
An hour later move into deep sleep: air at 27, every light off, sound
stopped.
At 04:00 move into light sleep: air back down to 26.5, nothing else
changes.
Thirty minutes before I wake, air down to 25 and raise the lamp from
dark to a medium cooler white.
If the room has more than one air conditioner, keep their mode and
temperature aligned so one is not heating while the other cools.
Turn every notification on these rules off. Nothing may be pushed to me
overnight.
Skip anything I do not own rather than pretending I have it.
Once it is built, test it yourself, confirm it really works, then tell
me which devices you used.
Adjust it for your homethe version for two people who disagree
One of us feels the cold and the other runs hot, so adjust the deep
sleep mode for that.
Compromise on the air: 26 falling asleep, 27.5 in deep sleep, 25.5
before waking.
There is an electric blanket on the colder side of the bed. Switch it
on when deep sleep starts and off before I wake.
Leave everything else as it is.
Changing it laterone sentence is enough
Please adjust the deep sleep set.
Deep sleep runs too warm, take it from 27 down to 26.5.
I have also been going to bed later, so push all four time points back
by an hour.
And cut the white noise to twenty minutes.
When something is wrongafter swapping in a new air conditioner
We swapped in a new bedroom air conditioner last week and the old unit
is gone.
The sleep button still dims the lamp and starts the white noise, but the
temperature sits still all night.
Please take a fresh inventory of the air conditioning in that room, drop
the unit that no longer exists, and point all four stages at the new one.
Then run the deep sleep stage on the spot, so I can watch the new unit
take the target temperature.
One caution: the HA-MCP connection URL is the key to your home. Do not post it publicly, and do not give it to services you do not trust.

Common questions

Does the air conditioner make a noise when the temperature changes?
An inverter unit only alters compressor speed, so there is usually no audible start or stop. Window and fixed-speed units are more likely to be heard; in that case reduce each step to 0.5 degrees and make two changes rather than one full degree.
Might the white noise itself be disruptive?
Keep the volume very low — just enough to cover the sound of the air conditioning. And always set it to stop automatically; running all night does nothing for sleep. Thirty minutes matches when most people are asleep.
My bedtime varies
Then define the four points as offsets from the button press rather than clock times — deep sleep one hour after, light sleep five and a half hours after, and so on. The curve then follows you whenever you turn in.
Will cooling before I wake be too cold?
What changes is the target, not the actual temperature instantly. The room takes time to respond, so what you feel is a gradual cooling — which is precisely what helps you wake naturally. If it is still uncomfortable, move the last stage from 25 to 25.5.
One of us runs hot and one cold
The air can only be one temperature, so compromise there. The real fix is at bed level: an electric blanket on the colder side, a lighter duvet on the warmer one. Air conditioning handles the room; bedding handles the individuals.
Do I have to rebuild it to change a temperature?
No. Just say "deep sleep is too warm, make it 26.5" and the assistant will find that scene and edit it.
deep sleep

A month from now

You reach for the covers less often at night, and you are frequently half awake before the alarm goes.

All because the room finally understands that what you need changes while you sleep.
